Banksy in Reading

How lucky have we been with the infamous Banksy paying us a visit?

This great piece of graffiti really does show his talents and we’re happy to have it on our walls.

The thing is, this isn’t just any wall. This is the wall of the Reading Gaol. The jail that incarcerated the great poet and writer Sir Oscar Wilde between 1895-97.

Upon his release he wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol, it’s a poem by Oscar Wilde, written in exile in Berneval-le-Grand, Normandy, France.

The ballad continues due to the potential dreams surrounding the future of Gaols ownership. The heart of the community has spoken loud and clear that they’d like the prison to be an arts centre. Local theatres and arts groups like Theatre & Arts Reading (TAR) have been bidding to work with Reading Borough Council to do just that.

Let’s hope it happens!!!
